Teaching summary
In this sermon, Leonard and Lori Rola explore the deep and controversial message that the Apostle Paul received from Jesus Christ. Paul was taken to Paradise and heard unspeakable and unlawful things, which he later revealed were the truths of righteousness through faith, not the law. The Jewish leaders considered his teachings blasphemous, leading to his persecution. The sermon emphasizes that believers today must speak only what is lawful in God’s kingdom—truths about our righteousness, holiness, and completeness in Christ.

id Corinthians 12:2-4 – "I knew a man in Christ above fourteen years ago, (whether in the body, I cannot tell; or whether out of the body, I cannot tell: God knoweth;) such a one caught up to the third heaven. And I knew such a man, (whether in the body, or out of the body, I cannot tell: God knoweth;) How that he was caught up into paradise, and heard unspeakable words, which it is not lawful for a man to utter."
Acts 8:1-3- "And Saul was consenting unto his death. And at that time there was a great persecution against the church which was at Jerusalem; and they were all scattered abroad throughout the regions of Judaea and Samaria, except the apostles. And devout men carried Stephen to his burial, and made great lamentation over him. As for Saul, he made havoc on the church, entering into every house, and holding men and women committed them to prison."
Acts 9:1-2- "And Saul, yet breathing out threatenings and slaughter against the disciples of the Lord, went unto the high priest, And desired of him letters to Damascus to the synagogues, that if he found any of this way, whether they were men or women, he might bring them bound unto Jerusalem."
Isaiah 64:6- "But we are all as an unclean thing, and all our righteousnesses are as filthy rags, and we all do fade as a leaf; and our iniquities, like the wind, have taken us away."
Romans 10:1-4- "Brethren, my heart's desire and prayer to God for Israel is, that they might be saved. For I bear them record that they have a zeal of God, but not according to knowledge. For they being ignorant of God's righteousness, and going about to establish their righteousness, have not submitted themselves unto the righteousness of God. For Christ is the end of the law for righteousness to everyone that believes."
1 Corinthians 15:56- "The sting of death is sin, and the strength of sin is the law."
2 Corinthians 3:7, 9, 14- "But if the ministration of death, written and engraved in stones, was glorious so that the children of Israel could not steadfastly behold the face of Moses for the glory of his countenance; which glory was to be done away… For if the ministration of condemnation is glory, much more doth the ministration of righteousness exceed ins glory… But their minds were blinded: for until this day remaineth the same vail untaken away in the reading of the old testament; which vail is done away in Christ."
Colossians 2:14- "Blotting out the handwriting of ordinances that was against us, which was contrary to us, and took it out of the way, nailing it to his cross."
Romans 3:21-22- "But now the righteousness of God without the law is manifested, being witnessed by the law and the prophets; Even the righteousness of God which is by faith of Jesus Christ unto all and upon all them that believe: for there is no difference."
Galatians 3:21-22- "Is the law then against the promises of God? God forbid: for if there had been a law given which could have given life, verily righteousness should have been by the law. But the scripture hath concluded all under sin, that the promise by faith of Jesus Christ might be given to them that believe."
2 Corinthians 11:23-26- "Are they ministers of Christ? (I speak as a fool) I am more; in labors more abundant, in stripes above measure, in prisons more frequent, in deaths oft. Of the Jews, five times received I forty stripes save one. Thrice was I beaten with rods, once was I stoned, thrice I suffered shipwreck, a night and a day I have been in the deep; In journeyings often, in perils of waters, in perils of robbers, in perils by mine own countrymen, in perils by the heathen, in perils in the city, in perils in the wilderness, in perils in the sea, in perils among false brethren."
Romans 1:16-17- "For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to everyone that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek. For therein is the righteousness of God revealed from faith to faith: as it is written, The just shall live by faith."
Philippians 4:8- "Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things."

Introduction: Paul's Vision of Paradise
Paul describes being caught up in Paradise, where he heard unspeakable and unlawful things. The Greek meaning of "unspeakable" and "unlawful" suggests that these were truths too radical for the Jewish leaders to accept.
The Meaning of Unspeakable and Unlawful Things
Paul’s message challenged the Jewish law, revealing that righteousness comes by faith, not works. Jewish leaders persecuted Paul because his teachings contradicted Mosaic Law
The Zeal of Saul and His Persecution of the Church
Saul, before his conversion, persecuted believers who preached righteousness apart from the law. His encounter with Christ transformed him into Paul, the apostle of grace.
Righteousness by Faith vs. the Law
Paul teaches that righteousness is not achieved through the law but through faith in Christ. The law was given to reveal sin, not to justify people.
The Strength of Sin is the Law
Paul describes how the law strengthens sin instead of removing it. The law condemns, but grace brings justification.
Paul’s Suffering for Preaching Grace
Paul was beaten, imprisoned, and stoned for preaching the gospel of grace. He remained steadfast, knowing that Christ had given him the true gospel.
Our Response: Speaking Lawful and Speakable Truths
Believers must declare only what is true in Christ: righteousness, holiness, and completeness. Speaking contrary to God’s truth is now "unspeakable and unlawful" in His kingdom.
Conclusion: Living in the Truth of the Kingdom
Paul’s revelation from Christ must be embraced. As believers, we must boldly declare what is lawful in the Kingdom of God.
