Teaching summary

In this foundational teaching, Pastors Leonard and Lori Rola explore what it means to be "quickened" by the Spirit of God. They emphasize that it is the Spirit that brings life—not our efforts, works, or flesh. Righteousness is not earned but received through faith in Jesus Christ, and many believers remain "stuck in the yuck" due to old covenant thinking, legalism, or condemnation. Jesus' words are spirit and life, and true transformation comes by believing in the finished work of Christ. This message is a call to align our soul with the truth of our spirit and let grace quicken us into the abundant life we’ve already been given.

Bible verses referenced

  • John 17:21-23- That they all may be one; as thou, Father, art in me, and I in thee, that they also may be one in us: that the world may believe that thou hast sent me. And the glory which thou gavest me I have given them; that they may be one, even as we are one:
I in them, and thou in me, that they may be made perfect in one; and that the world may know that thou hast sent me, and hast loved them, as thou hast loved me."

  • Romans 8:30- Moreover, whom he did predestinate, them he also called: and whom he called, them he also justified: and whom he justified, them he also glorified.

  • John 6:63- It is the spirit that quickeneth; the flesh profiteth nothing: the words that I speak unto you are spirit and life.

  • Mark 9:21-24- And he asked his father, How long is it ago since this came unto him? And he said, Of a child. And ofttimes it hath cast him into the fire, and into the waters, to destroy him: but if thou canst do any thing, have compassion on us, and help us. Jesus said unto him, If thou canst believe, all things are possible to him that believeth. And straightway the father of the child cried out, and said with tears, Lord, I believe; help thou mine unbelief.

  • Romans 8:1- There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit.

  • John 3:17- For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved.

Introduction: Honoring Fathers and the Mission of the Ministry

Pastor Leonard opens by reflecting on Father’s Day, appreciating the beautiful card and love shown by Pastor Lori. He extends warm wishes to all fathers and transitions into thanking supporters of the ministry. He emphasizes that their goal is not to grow a brand but to grow the Kingdom of God by unveiling the identity of believers in Christ and freeing people from the "yuck" of condemnation and performance-based religion.

Revisiting the Message: Be Quickened

The core teaching revisits the message from Sunday: Be Quickened. The quickening refers to an awakening or activation of our soul when it aligns with our spirit, which is already made perfect in Christ. The Pastors stress that no effort or performance is needed to earn God's blessing. That was settled through our faith in Jesus.

The Truth About Righteousness Through Faith

Pastor Leonard and Lori explain that the moment we placed our faith in Christ, we were made righteous. There is nothing left to do to become qualified for blessing or favor. As Paul declares in Romans 8:30,
"Moreover whom he did predestinate, them he also called: and whom he called, them he also justified: and whom he justified, them he also glorified."

This means our justification is complete, and we are seen by God as if we’ve never sinned.

The Weight of the Word “Saint

Paul calls believers “saints” throughout his letters, a word that means “blameless and holy.” The pastors highlight that Paul wasn’t using poetic language—he meant it literally. He received his gospel directly from Jesus, as confirmed in John 17:22,
"And the glory which thou gavest me I have given them; that they may be one, even as we are one."

Leaving the Old Covenant Behind

Referencing Hebrews 10:7,
"Then said I, Lo, I come (in the volume of the book it is written of me,) to do thy will, O God."
Jesus came to fulfill and replace the old covenant. Many Christians still operate under Old Testament performance-based thinking. But Romans 10:4 reminds us,
"For Christ is the end of the law for righteousness to every one that believeth."
And Romans 10:10 says,
"For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation."

Understanding John 6:63 — Spirit vs. Flesh

The central verse of the message is John 6:63:
"It is the spirit that quickeneth; the flesh profiteth nothing: the words that I speak unto you, they are spirit, and they are life."
The spirit is what brings life—our senses, efforts, and works of the flesh cannot produce spiritual fruit.

Jesus’ Words Are Life-Giving

Jesus says His words—and the words about Him—are spirit and life. This is contrasted with the law, which says “you must” and “you shall,” but does not produce life.

What Profit Really Means

The Greek word for “profiteth” means to be useful, beneficial, or advantageous. Yet Jesus says, “the flesh profiteth nothing.” That means all human effort, law-based striving, or sensory perception cannot benefit us spiritually. Nothing means nothing.

Why the Flesh Cannot Profit

Pastor Lori explains that “flesh” also refers to performance-based religion (law) and to physical senses. Neither can produce the quickening of the Spirit. Trying to attain righteousness through works will always fall short.

Honest Pain, But No Condemnation

Pastor Leonard vulnerably admits he’s in pain but stresses that acknowledging pain isn’t wrong—giving it power is. The focus must shift back to Jesus. Romans 8:1 says,
"There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit."

The Heart of the Father in Luke 15

God’s grace is revealed through Jesus’ parable in Luke 15. The father’s love toward both sons—whether rebellious or self-righteous—shows us how God sees us. Pastor Lori says, "If you want to know what grace is, look at how the father treated both of his sons.

Belief, Unbelief, and the Miracle in Mark 9

Referencing Mark 9:21-24,
"Lord, I believe; help thou mine unbelief."
The Pastors explain that the father’s unbelief did not cancel the miracle. Jesus didn’t condemn him; He helped him. Likewise, we can come boldly to God for help even if we struggle to believe fully. As it says in Hebrews 4:16:
"Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need."

Final Thoughts and the Power of Grace

The teaching closes by magnifying Jesus' words again: “they are spirit, and they are life.” The quickening comes not by effort, but by receiving His Word. Part 2 will explore more confirming scriptures. But already the truth is clear—God’s Word about Christ brings life, not law, not effort, not guilt.

We hope this article blessed you. Share this teaching with someone who needs to be reminded that they are already righteous in Christ and that the Spirit—not the flesh—brings life. Keep listening, keep receiving, and don’t miss QUICKENED PART 2. You are loved, and you are already qualified in Jesus.
