Teaching summary

In this teaching, Pastors Leonard and Lori Rola explain that while believers are no longer under the old covenant law, the new covenant of grace operates by the laws of love, faith, and liberty. Love, as commanded by Jesus, fulfills all requirements of the law. Faith is not based on human effort but on the faith of the Son of God, which is energized by a revelation of His love. Liberty means believers are set free from sin, death, and the burdens of the law, living in the freedom Christ has given them. When love governs a believer’s life, sin loses its power, faith is activated, and true freedom is experienced.

Introduction: No Longer Under the Law

Pastors Leonard and Lori Rola begin by expressing gratitude for the support of their ministry, especially during the summer months when donations tend to decrease. They then transition to a powerful question often asked: under the new covenant of grace, are believers still under the law? Pastor Leonard admits that he cannot even recite all the Ten Commandments and is grateful for that, as believers are no longer bound by the law but live under grace. However, he emphasizes that in the new covenant, there are still laws—specifically the laws of love, faith, and liberty.

The Perfect Law of Love

Pastor Leonard explains that Jesus gave a new commandment under the new covenant, quoting John 13:34-35: "A new commandment I give unto you, That ye love one another; as I have loved you, that ye also love one another. By this shall all men know that ye are my disciples, if ye have love one to another." This love is not based on human effort but is modeled on the love Jesus demonstrated. He reminds the congregation of Colossians 2:14: "Blotting out the handwriting of ordinances that was against us, which was contrary to us, and took it out of the way, nailing it to his cross." The old ordinances have been removed. As 2 Corinthians 3:7 and 3:9 reveal, the old law was an administration of death and condemnation, but now believers operate in a new law—love.

Love as the Fulfillment of the Law

Pastor Leonard highlights Romans 13:8: "Owe no man any thing, but to love one another: for he that loveth another hath fulfilled the law." He continues with Romans 13:10: "Love worketh no ill to his neighbour: therefore love is the fulfilling of the law." He explains that love makes it impossible to harm another person and that when believers live in Jesus’ love, they automatically fulfill all requirements of the law. He illustrates this by explaining how he and Pastor Lori love each other, their children, and others through the love of Christ.

The Power of Love to Transform Thinking

Pastor Lori shares that what believers focus on shapes their lives. Instead of obsessing over not breaking commandments, believers should focus on how much God loves others and respond with that same love. She testifies that understanding God’s love brought healing in her life years ago. The revelation of His love continues to grow and transform her mindset, making sin powerless because her mind is filled with love.

The Perfect Law of Faith

Pastor Leonard moves to the second principle: faith. Romans 3:27: "Where is boasting then? It is excluded. By what law? of works? Nay: but by the law of faith." He emphasizes that faith is not about human boasting or effort because it is not our own faith but God’s faith given to us. Romans 12:3: "For I say, through the grace given unto me, to every man that is among you, not to think of himself more highly than he ought to think; but to think soberly, according as God hath dealt to every man the measure of faith."

Living by the Faith of the Son of God

Pastor Leonard continues with Galatians 2:20: "I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me." Faith operates through love, and the more believers understand God’s love, the more they activate and energize the God-kind of faith that already resides within them.

The Perfect Law of Liberty

The third principle is liberty. Pastor Leonard reads Romans 6:1-2: "What shall we say then? Shall we continue in sin, that grace may abound? God forbid. How shall we, that are dead to sin, live any longer therein?" He explains that believers who are dead to sin are freed from it. Romans 6:7-8: "For he that is dead is freed from sin. Now if we be dead with Christ, we believe that we shall also live with him." Jesus has freed His people from sin, condemnation, sickness, and the burdens of the law.

Freedom from Sin and Condemnation

Pastor Leonard emphasizes that Jesus has completely liberated believers from sin and its effects. He reminds them to "Stand fast therefore in the liberty wherewith Christ hath made us free, and be not entangled again with the yoke of bondage" (Galatians 5:1). Pastor Lori reinforces that when believers realize how deeply God loves them, sin no longer holds power because love governs their lives.

Resting in His Love and Liberty

Pastor Lori concludes by encouraging believers to rest in God’s love, which is the root and source of life, not the Ten Commandments or other rules. The revelation of His love continually strengthens faith and affirms the truth of their liberty in Christ.

Closing Words of Encouragement

Pastors Leonard and Lori close the message by encouraging listeners to revisit the full Sunday message for deeper understanding. They remind the audience that love, faith, and liberty—rooted in Christ—govern the believer’s life and bring true freedom.
