Introduction: God’s Faith vs. Law Faith
The sermon begins by contrasting “law faith,” which is based on works and self-effort, with “new covenant grace faith,” which is a gift from God. Pastor Leonard explains that we are not called to muster up faith by saying, “I will be strong in faith.” Instead, the focus is on the faith of God that is already within us. This faith rises when we trust Him, and there is no room for boasting because it is His gift.
The Measure of God’s Faith in Every Believer
Pastor Leonard emphasizes that every believer has been given the same measure of faith. He says, “Someone says to you, ‘Man, I wish I had the faith you have.’ You do. It’s been measured to us, gifted to us by God.” What differs is how we respond to and use this God-given faith. He points to the example of following Paul’s instructions: believe, speak, and let the faith of God rise.
Faith Energized by Love (Galatians 5:6)
The message highlights Galatians 5:6: "For in Jesus Christ neither circumcision availeth any thing, nor uncircumcision; but faith which worketh by love." Pastor Leonard explains that what we do or don’t do is not what matters. What matters is that faith is energized by understanding and receiving God’s love. Faith is alive and effective when rooted in love.
Paul’s Prayer in Ephesians: Rooted and Grounded in Love
Pastor Leonard refers to Paul’s prayer, stating, Ephesians 3:17-19: "That Christ may dwell in your hearts by faith; that ye, being rooted and grounded in love, May be able to comprehend with all saints what is the breadth, and length, and depth, and height; And to know the love of Christ, which passeth knowledge, that ye might be filled with all the fulness of God."
He urges believers to check their hearts, knowing Christ dwells in them by faith. He encourages them to be rooted and grounded in His love, knowing with certainty that God’s love is unchanging and perfect.
The Gospel of Christ and the Power of Love (Romans 1:16)
Pastor Leonard declares, Romans 1:16: "For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek."
He explains that the gospel of Christ is the good news that John 3:16: "For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life." This gospel, rooted in God’s love, transforms lives and creates new creations through faith in Jesus.
Faith Comes by Hearing (Romans 10:17)
Pastor Leonard reminds listeners that faith is not about self-effort or comparing levels of faith with others. He quotes Romans 10:17: "So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God." He explains that faith is stirred from within us as we hear about Christ, His anointing, and His love for us.
Living by the Faith of the Son of God (Galatians 2:20)
The pastor shares Galatians 2:20: "I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me." He teaches that our life of faith is not lived through personal strength, but through the faith of the Son of God who loves us. True faith is inseparable from His love.
Communion and the New Covenant of Grace
As the message draws to a close, the focus shifts to communion. Pastor Leonard reminds the congregation that taking communion is a declaration of belief in the new covenant, established through Jesus’ blood. He emphasizes that all of it—faith, belief, and salvation—is a gift from God. “You have removed every fault that was found in the first covenant. You have made this flawless. It’s all about You, Father, and what Jesus has done.”
Closing Prayer and Encouragement
The pastors end with a prayer of gratitude, thanking God for His love, the gift of faith, and the miracles that come through believing and receiving. They encourage everyone to keep hearing about Jesus and His love, knowing that as faith rises up from within, they will walk in the perfect law of faith.
