Teaching summary

This message emphasizes Paul’s teaching on healing and how it flows from the gospel of grace. Paul connects healing with righteousness, the power of the resurrection, faith that comes by hearing about Christ, and knowing we are loved by God. The sermon stresses that healing is not about striving or earning but about resting in our union with Christ. Believers must recognize their righteousness in Him, hear the gospel continually, understand their unity with Christ’s resurrection life, and rest in God’s love.

Bible verses referenced

Romans 1:16-17: “For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to everyone that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek. For therein is the righteousness of God revealed from faith to faith: as it is written, The shall live by faith.”

Colossians 1:13: “Who hath delivered us from the power of darkness, and hath translated us into the kingdom of his dear Son.”

1 Corinthians 15:17: “And if Christ be not raised, your faith is vain; ye are yet in your sins.”

Romans 8:11: “But if the Spirit of him that raised Jesus from the dead dwell in you, he that raised Christ from the dead shall also quicken your mortal bodies by his Spirit that dwelled in you.”

Acts 14:8-10: “And there sat a certain man at Lystra, impotent in his feet, being a cripple from his mother’s womb, who never had walked: The same heard Paul speak: who, steadfastly beholding him, and perceiving that he had faith to be healed, said with a loud voice, Stand upright on thy feet. And he leaped and walked.”

2 Corinthians 5:21: “For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him.”

Colossians 1:12: “Giving thanks unto the Father, which hath made us meet to be partakers of the inheritance of the saints in light.”

1 Corinthians 11:24-30: “And when he had given thanks, he brake it, and said, Take, eat: this is my body, which is broken for you: this do in remembrance of me. In the same manner, he also took the cup, when he had supped, saying, This cup is the new testament in my blood: this do ye, as oft as ye drink it, in remembrance of me. For as often as ye eat this bread, and drink this cup, ye do shew the Lord’s death till he come. Wherefore whosoever shall eat this bread, and drink this cup of the Lord, unworthily, shall be guilty of the body and blood of the Lord. But let a man examine himself, and so let him eat of that bread, and drink of that cup. For he that eateth and drinketh unworthily, eateth and drinketh damnation to himself, not discerning the Lord’s body. For this cause, many are weak and sickly among you, and many sleep.”

2 Corinthians 13:5: “Examine yourselves, whether ye be in the faith; prove your own selves. Know ye not your own selves, how that Jesus Christ is in you, except ye be reprobates?”

Acts 17:22-31: “Then Paul stood in the midst of Mars’ hill, and said, Ye men of Athens, I perceive that in all things ye are too superstitious. For as I passed by, and beheld your devotions, I found an altar with this inscription, To the Unknown God. Whom therefore ye ignorantly worship, him declare I unto you. God that made the world and all things therein, seeing that he is Lord of heaven and earth, dwelled not in temples made with hands; Neither is worshipped with men’s hands, as though he needed anything, seeing he gives to all life, and breath, and all things… And the times of this ignorance God winked at; but now commanded all men everywhere to repent: Because he hath appointed a day, in the which he will judge the world in righteousness by that man whom he hath ordained; whereof he hath given assurance unto all men, in that he hath raised him from the dead.”

Romans 4:25: “Who was delivered for our offences, and was raised again for our justification.”

Romans 8:30: “Moreover, whom he did predestinate, them he also called: and whom he called, them he also justified: and whom he justified, them he also glorified.”

2 Corinthians 1:19-21: “For the Son of God, Jesus Christ, who was preached among you by us, even by me and Silvanus and Timotheus, was not yea and nay, but in him was yea. For all the promises of God in him are yea, and in him Amen, unto the glory of God by us. Now he who establishes us with you in Christ, and hath anointed us, is God; Who hath also sealed us, and given the earnest of the Spirit in our hearts.”

Romans 10:17: “So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.”

2 Corinthians 3:18: “But we all, with open face beholding as in a glass the glory of the Lord, are changed into the same image from glory to glory, even as by the Spirit of the Lord.”

Romans 6:4-5: “Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into death: that like as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life. For if we have been planted together in the likeness of his death, we shall be also in the likeness of his resurrection.”

Galatians 5:6: “For in Jesus Christ neither circumcision availed anything, nor circumcision; but faith which worked by love.”

Ephesians 3:16-19: “That he would grant you, according to the riches of his glory, to be strengthened with might by his Spirit in the inner man; That Christ may dwell in your hearts by faith; that ye, being rooted and grounded in love, May be able to comprehend with all saints what is the breadth, and length, and depth, and height; And to know the love of Christ, which passed knowledge, that ye might be filled with all the fullness of God.”

Introduction: Healing from Head to Heart

The message begins with worship and a prophetic word of healing for those with pain in the head, face, or sinuses. The pastors prayed that God’s healing touch would be manifested, reminding listeners that healing is present through Christ and should be received by faith.

The Power of the Gospel According to Paul

Paul boldly declares in Romans 1:16-17 that the gospel is the power of God unto salvation. “For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to everyone that believeth…” Salvation (Greek soteria) means rescue, deliverance, safety, healing, and sanctification. It includes forgiveness of sins and healing of the body.

Resurrection Emphasis in the Early Church

The early church centered its preaching on the resurrection, not merely the crucifixion. Paul wrote in 1 Corinthians 15:17, “And if Christ be not raised, your faith is vain; ye are yet in your sins.” The resurrection confirmed justification and brought resurrection power to believers. Romans 8:11 declares, “But if the Spirit of him that raised Jesus from the dead dwell in you… He shall also quicken your mortal bodies…”This is the source of healing.

Faith Comes by Hearing the Gospel

The healing of the crippled man in Acts 14:8-10 demonstrates that faith comes through hearing. “The same heard Paul speak… Paul perceived that he had faith to be healed, and said with a loud voice, Stand upright on thy feet. And he leaped and walked.” Faith is not about building spiritual muscles through works, but about hearing the truth of Christ and His resurrection.

The Importance of Righteousness in Healing

Righteousness is essential for receiving healing. 2 Corinthians 5:21 teaches, “For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him.” Many believers miss healing because they see themselves as unworthy sinners instead of righteous in Christ. Colossians 1:12 reminds us, “Giving thanks unto the Father, which hath made us meet to be partakers of the inheritance of the saints in light.

Communion and Rightly Discerning the Body

Paul’s teaching in 1 Corinthians 11:24-30 shows that some were sick because they failed to discern the Lord’s body and their righteousness. Believers should examine themselves rightly, not to find sin, but to recognize Christ in them. “For he that eateth and drunkest unworthily, eaten and drunkest damnation to himself, not discerning the Lord’s body. For this cause many are weak and sickly among you, and many sleep.

Paul’s Sermon on Mars Hill: Assurance Through Resurrection

In Acts 17:22-31, Paul preaches to idol worshippers in Athens without condemning them. Instead, he points to the resurrection as proof of righteousness and assurance. “Because he hath appointed a day, in the which he will judge the world in righteousness by that man whom he hath ordained… in that he hath raised him from the dead.” Romans 4:25 affirms, “Who was delivered for our offences, and was raised again for our justification.”

Union with Christ: Death, Burial, and Resurrection

Romans 6:4–5 says, “Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into death: that like as Christ was raised… even so we also should walk in newness of life.” Healing flows from knowing we are united with Christ in His resurrection. This union makes us partakers of resurrection power for healing and victory.

Faith Energized by Love

Faith works through love. Galatians 5:6 states, “For in Jesus Christ neither circumcision availed anything, nor circumcision; but faith which worked by love.”Paul prayed in Ephesians 3:16-19 that believers would be rooted and grounded in love, knowing the breadth, length, depth, and height of Christ’s love. Healing manifests as believers rest in God’s love.

Closing Encouragement and Prayer

The message concludes by emphasizing that healing is received not through striving but through resting in God’s love and recognizing righteousness in Christ. Healing flows from knowing the gospel, hearing Christ, union with Him, and faith rooted in love.
