Teaching summary

This message by Pastors Leonard and Lori Rola centers on John 6:63, where Jesus says that the spirit gives life, not the flesh. Pastor Leonard teaches that the quickening work of the Holy Spirit is active in the life of every believer today—revitalizing the body, restoring strength, and empowering victorious living. Through personal testimony and scripture, he emphasizes that true power is released not through works, but by knowing God's love and understanding our righteousness in Christ. Pastor Lori opens with a heartfelt word honoring fathers and encourages believers to walk daily in the Spirit rather than trying to “catch up” with God occasionally.

A Special Word for Fathers

Pastor Lori began with a special word for Father's Day, honoring the vital role of fathers in the family. She emphasized that fathers represent the heart of God, holding families together by loving unconditionally, working faithfully, and leading with strength regardless of circumstances. She declared, "Without the fathers, the family's broken.

The Message of the Father's Heart

Pastor Leonard shared his admiration for Luke chapter 15, describing it as a powerful parable revealing the heart of the Father. He said: "If you want to know about your heavenly father, just read Luke chapter 15." The story of the loving father and his two sons is a reflection of God’s grace. Pastor Leonard stressed that any understanding of grace must align with the character of God shown in Luke 15.

It's the Spirit That Quickens: John 6:63

Pastor Leonard explained the main verse of the sermon:

John 6:63: "It is the spirit that quickeneth; the flesh profiteth nothing: the words that I speak unto you, they are spirit, and they are life."

He taught that the Greek word for "quickeneth" means "to revitalize, make alive, or give life." He explained that our five senses profit nothing, and it’s often those senses that hinder us from walking in God’s abundance. Jesus emphasized that His words are not just information—they are Spirit and life.

The Spirit Gives Life Now: Romans 8:11

Pastor Leonard highlighted that this quickening is not for the future resurrection only, but for today. He read:

Romans 8:11: "But if the Spirit of him that raised up Jesus from the dead dwell in you, he that raised up Christ from the dead shall also quicken your mortal bodies by his Spirit that dwelleth in you."

He emphasized the word "mortal"—our current, earthly bodies—and declared that the Spirit gives life here and now. He reinforced this by referencing:

Romans 8:9: "But ye are not in the flesh, but in the Spirit, if so be that the Spirit of God dwell in you…"

Romans 6:4: "Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into death: that like as Christ was raised up from the dead… we also should walk in newness of life.

The Testimony of Healing and Strength

Pastor Leonard shared a personal testimony of facing cancer and rapid weight loss, dropping from 254 lbs to 178 lbs. He detailed how weak he became—yet even in this state, he was supernaturally empowered by the Spirit. His wife once carried him into the hospital, but on Sunday, he was strengthened enough to attend and lead worship. He testified, “Something happened when I walked into that church. The anointing took over.

Faith Energized by Love: Walking in Power

He quoted:

Ephesians 1:19-20: "And what is the exceeding greatness of his power to us-ward who believe… Which he wrought in Christ, when he raised him from the dead…

Ephesians 3:20: "Now unto him that can do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that worketh in us.

Pastor Leonard encouraged the church to walk in sync with that power. He declared that we have a “Superman” living in us—Jesus Christ.

The Power of Knowing Righteousness

He taught that the two greatest forces for releasing spiritual power are knowing God’s love and knowing we are righteous. He quoted:

Colossians 1:12: "Giving thanks unto the Father, which hath made us meet to be partakers of the inheritance of the saints in light.

Romans 4:25: "Who was delivered for our offences, and was raised again for our justification.

Romans 5:1: "Therefore being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ.

Romans 5:17: "…they which receive abundance of grace and of the gift of righteousness shall reign in life by one, Jesus Christ.

Rejecting the “Sinner Saved by Grace

He addressed the common phrase “I’m just a sinner saved by grace” and said, “I’m not a sinner saved by grace—I am the righteousness of God in Christ Jesus.

2 Corinthians 5:21: "For he hath made him to be sin for us… that we might be made the righteousness of God in him.

He explained the misuse of:

Romans 3:23: For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;

…and the importance of continuing to:

Romans 3:24: Being justified freely by his grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus.

Romans 3:26: …he might be just, and the justifier of him which believeth in Jesus.

Teaching Our Children God's Love

Pastor Leonard shared a story about meeting a former church member who emphasized teaching children to love God. He gently corrected her, stressing the importance of teaching children how much God loves them first. He quoted:

Galatians 5:6: …but faith which worketh by love.

He explained that love releases faith and righteousness, motivating us more powerfully than the law ever could.

Daily Fellowship Over Catching Up

Pastor Lori reminded the congregation not to “catch up” with God like we do with old friends, but to walk and talk with Him daily. She emphasized that regular fellowship keeps us in sync with our identity in Christ.

Communion and the Finished Work

During communion, Pastor Lori quoted:

Romans 10:9-10: "…if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus… For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness…"

She reminded believers that Jesus said, "It is finished." We celebrate communion not as a ritual, but as a declaration of the finished work.

She also read:

Matthew 26:26-28: "…Jesus took bread… this is my body… this is my blood of the new testament…"

Pastor Leonard concluded with a testimony of a man freed from addiction after receiving the message of righteousness. He reminded everyone:

“You are the head and not the tail… blessed going in and blessed going out."
